On April 30th, 2008, several members of the foundation (Amaris Koga, George Prisacaru, Claudia Moscalu, Cipriana Mihaescu-Pintia, Gabi Flore, Daniel Murariu) went to the Sculeni Medical-Social Unit in Iasi County on the second annual event in participation with the Prisacani School of Arts and Crafts.
As we did last year, the children under the direction of Georgiana and Claudiu Nita sang and recited poetry for the residents in celebration of Easter. Afterwards each of the 37 residents received a joybag containing personal items such as toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, comb, as well as a fleece cover, flashlight, playing cards and even a stuffed animal. In addition we also provided oranges and bananas to each bag, as well as chicken breasts and legs to be cooked for lunch that day.
The Foundation also promised to pay 1,000 RON (around 400 USD) for the cataract surgery of a resident that would not be covered by insurance, but a few days later the resident got cold feet about having the procedure. Nonetheless, in lieu of paying for the surgery, a door and a window were replaced at a cost of 1,200 RON (around 500 USD).
Similar to last year, the Foundation paid the tickets for the children to visit the Natural History Museum in Iasi, but also gave soccer balls to the boys and stuffed animals to the girls.
Many of the Prisacani schoolchildren are part of the Children’s Church Choir in the village that is guided by Mrs. Georgiana Nita. During Christmas, the choir went caroling and raised 1,250 RON (around 500 USD) that were donated to the Foundation to pay partly for the today’s activity. The joybags and the children’s toys were donated by Fairhaven Ministries from Covington, LA and we kindly thank them.
